I am very proud to announce that the Volunteer Recruitment Campaign is off to a fantastic start. For all those who are interested, we are having a brainstorming session of creative ways to recruit volunteers to be tutors and mentors. It will be Tuesday August 14th at 2pm at Literacy Volunteers of Illinois. Their address is:

30 E. Adams, Suite 1130

Chicago, IL 60603

Phone Number: 312-857-1582

Contact: Dorothy Miaso, Executive Director

While I hope many tutor/mentor leaders, as well as volunteer-managers from big and small companies will attend the meeting on August 14th, I also hope we can start a discussion here about ways you can use  your own communications ability to increase awareness of volunteer opportunities in tutor/mentor programs throughout the Chicago region.

Just by putting an article on a company, or church, web site, with a link to the Program Locator and Chicago Program Links sections of this web site, you connect potential volunteers with any tutor/mentor program in the city.

If you are a program, you can use a blog, like http://cabrinigblog.blogspot.com to promote you own program, and to link to the T/MC links section. Every time you point to more choices you encourage volunteers to get involved throughout the city, not just at your location. As others do this, you'll benefit. So will they.

We've created a variety of on-line communities where you can get involved and where you can invite others to get involved. If you know of other forums, just share them with us.  Thank you and good luck in your volunteer mobilization efforts.

I've been networking with Sara Kremer of Friends For  Youth, based in California. Sara wrote an article titled "Why Every Adolescent Needs a Mentor", which offers great reasons why volunteers should get involved with tutor/mentor programs as school starts this fall.
