National Institute for Civic Enterprise (NICE) Network launches

The National Institute for Civic Enterprise (NICE) is a new organization that seeks to connect innovative human service non profit leaders (civic entrepreneurs), donors and volunteers for the purpose of speeding up assistance to America's Needed.

Debra Berg launched the National Institute for Civic Enterprise  (NICE) in 2008. In the nineties, while interviewing civic (and social) entrepreneurs - citizen inventors of social solutions - she discovered the "New Civic America." In her book, The Power of One, she documents how creative people are sacrificially tackling major social problems apart from the government. In her research, she also discovered how typically they become absorbed in developing their missions and are unaware of others like them inventing similar initiatives, even in their same communities.

During the week of February 16, 2009, the network is launching the NICE Community Forum with the all-important topic of mentoring youth (ages 20 and under). The Forum is one piece of the NICE network's larger web site, www.NICENetwork.org <http://www.NICENetwork.org > , which is launching March 2, 2009.

Daniel F. Bassill, President of the Tutor/Mentor Connection, will be part of this mentoring discussion and we encourage others to join and participate. Once you join the site, submit a profile and contribute as much of your own knowledge and experiences as you want, so that others who are not that familiar with mentoring and want to know where they can learn are able to get started.

As Debra wrote in an email to the T/MC, "Others may want to launch a program in their community. This is all about educating people on where to find more information from mentors who have had a variety of experience (girls, boys, high school, inner city, rural, etc). We want to provide real people who they can connect with at any level of inquiry. NICE is all about building a knowledgebase of connections, it is not an end point, just a beginning. It is also about connecting leaders who may not be aware of the other's experiences and insights. We are doing this with a myriad of human service topics. Your insights here will grow our connections knowledge base for mentoring."
